Hello and good morning to you lovelies! I hope the day is treating you well. I’ve discussed the current announcements with several people, and it seems that BioWare’s new title; Anthem, is getting a lot traction with players. I’ll admit, it looks interesting, but is this Xbox timed exclusive, a Destiny clone, or killer?
When Anthem was first introduced on Saturday, I thought we may be looking at something new new. Visually, it’s very pretty; which is expected as a new triple A title. The trailer is compelling; again expected because it’s an EA published game; and as discussed in previous posts, no one makes better propaganda. I was genuinely excited for the next day’s announcement.
Then we were given this:
Don’t get me wrong. This looks great. Good action scenes. Open world. Multiplayer. Fully customizable exosuits. And you get a “array” of Javelins (exosuits), allowing players to play multiple classes. But something stood out to me., was at about the 5:25 mark, we see the “ranger” rolling for loot… Wait, what? We’ve seen this… Shortly after, we see the rest of our party drop into the game with us. Wait, this game already exists, just in space, and not on whatever planet or whatever universe this is in…. This shit is Destiny!
Ok, maybe not officially Destiny, but this seems a lot like Destiny. It’s odd to me, to see BioWare making a game that is so superficially derivative. I’m likely not exactly on point with this. We don’t have a lot of details as of yet, but it’s just sticking in my brain. I’ll reserve my full judgement for now. Destiny 2’s press conference is at 5PM CDT today, but I think it’s going to be interesting to see where this goes.
These kind of action adventure RPGs tend to be rabbit holes, where massive blocks of time disappear into the ether for eternity. It’s likely that most people won’t have time to play both this and Destiny 2. The competition between these 2 titles, may just turn into a foot race to a release date. It’s just a waiting game at this point, but who doesn’t like a good competition.
Thank you again for stopping by. What do you think? Let me know in the comment section below, on on Twitter @ZorakTheMantis. I personally believe that Bungie should never quit making Halo, and Microsoft shouldn’t have screwed the pooch, but that’s kinda besides the point here. I hope you beautiful bastards have a great day, and I’ll see you in the next post.
